Breann and Dave

04/01/2018

Our story began in 2012 when we decided it was the right time to start a family, at the time I was 27 and my husband 32. We tried on our own for about 10 months then saw our GP to run some basic tests to see if anything obvious was going on that was preventing us from being pregnant. Nothing obvious was revealed through these tests so we were referred to Dr. Taylor at Olive. Our paper work was sent over and we had a wonderful phone consultation with Dr. Taylor. Located 12 hours from Vancouver in a small northern BC town meant we would need to do as much of the testing close to home with conversations taking place over the phone rather then at the Olive Fertility Center. Olive was great in helping us achieve this.

In all the testing Dr. Taylor ordered we ended up with the diagnosis of unexplained infertility, which was very frustrating. We proceeded to do 3 clomid cycles at home then did 2 clomid/IUI cycles at Olive. All 5 cycles ended with negative pregnancy tests. We then opted to do IVF in 2014 and my body ended up over responding to the meds to where my health was at risk so we had to end the cycle and did not make it to retrieval. I remember my husband giving me the injection to shut down my ovaries, that was a hard one to do, we had worked so hard for this and would have to do it all over again, we both cried, that was a hard day for us.

Armed with the knowledge of how my body responds, we went back a few months later and did a second round, this time with much lower doses of medication and even closer monitoring. This time we made it to retrieval! We ended up with 6 beautiful 5 day embryos which were all frozen so my body could settle down. We flew back to Vancouver a few months later and did a frozen embryo transfer with one embryo. Unfortunately that resulted in a negative pregnancy test, but we were still very hopeful as we had 5 remaining. We traveled to Vancouver again for another frozen embryo transfer a few months later and this time transferred two.

Around 10 days later I had my blood work drawn in my town and received the most amazing call from Olive; we were pregnant! We cried and celebrated for hours, we were overjoyed to finally be expecting. At our first ultrasound it showed 2 beautiful babies, our boy/girl twins were born at 32+4 days and are now happy and healthy 2.5 year olds who have brought so much love and laughter to our home. We have since gone on to conceive our second daughter naturally who is now 8 months old, she was such a wonderful surprise.

Going through infertility was the hardest thing I have ever experienced in my life. Finding people in our lives that would support and encourage us was essential. We are so thankful for family and friends who were always there to listen, it made all the difference in our journey. The staff at Olive will always be in our hearts as we would not have our amazing twins without you! We feel are so grateful.
