OVERVIEW
Olive Fertility Centre is a patient-centred care facility which views patient care from the patient’s perspective. This is a position for a Registered Nurse who has completed the training required to be a Procedure (PR) Area Nurse and has demonstrated proficiency in the performance of nursing procedures in accordance with Olive Fertility Centre’s standards of care.
PREREQUISITES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BN), Nursing Science (BNS), or Science of Nursing (BScN) from an accredited university
Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as Authorized to practice – Current – Practising RN
Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider (current certification, within last year)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider (current certification, within last 2 years)
Safe and Effective Procedural Sedation and Analgesia (SEPSA) certification within last 3 years
Adequate computer skills. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, in particular). Understanding of the internet is necessary.
Previous experience in reproductive endocrinology, high acuity, emergency, ICU or perioperative setting is not required but is preferred.
SCOPE AND FUNCTION
This is a full-time position reporting to the Division Leader and Educator, Procedure Room & Recovery.
The Procedure Area Nurse (PAN) performs assigned duties at a proficient level and has been signed off by the Division Leader in accordance with Olive Fertility Centre’s procedures, protocols, and training manuals.
The PAN practices independently within the scope of practice of an RN.
The PAN works in procedure rooms and recovery area at Olive, in pharmacy and performing intrauterine inseminations (IUIs).
The PAN may begin to learn IVF Nurse Coordinator duties. Once at a proficient level, they can be signed off by the Division Leader, IVF Teams in accordance with Olive Fertility Centre’s procedures, protocols, and training manuals.

Assisting at egg retrieval (OPUs)
Scrubbing at egg retrieval
Assisting at embryo transfers
Assisting at diagnostic procedures such as Hysteroscopy, Endometrial Biopsy, sono-hystograms
Admission, monitoring and discharge of patients in the recovery room before and after these procedures
Mix antibiotics
Push IV medications
