The Kidds

05/09/2023

As we decided to expand our family, my husband and I planned to start trying for our second child in January of 2021. We kept getting negative pregnancy tests and negative ovulation tests. Of course it was hard to track since I had a very irregular cycle; sometimes, I would go 8 months without a period. We knew something was different this time as we were able to get pregnant our first time trying with our first born.

So, I booked a doctor appointment to get the ball rolling. I was then transferred to a gynaecologist who was very busy with other patients and I sometimes would not hear back from her for months. I had blood test after blood test and then even a CT scan.  The CT scan came back with a prognosis of a tumour in my pituitary gland that was over producing the hormone prolactin (tricking my body in to thinking it was breastfeeding and therefore causing irregular menstrual cycles.)

My gynaecologist then transferred me to Olive Fertility and within the week I had the lovely nurses reach out to me. There was no waiting period and they were super awesome and super supportive. They booked me in for a scan/ultrasound to check my Fallopian tubes which showed that I had a blockage on my right side. Within a few weeks of my appointment I was then booked for a procedure to clear the blockage. During that time I was on medication for my tumour and had been put on birth control (just in case) before the procedure.

After the procedure, I had my first menstrual cycle in over a year then two weeks after that I had a positive ovulation test.  A week and a bit after that I had several positive pregnancy tests. My husband and I were in absolute shock and we were so excited.

On our first ultrasound Dr. Graham was slightly worried that the pregnancy wouldn’t be viable as I was measuring behind. However, my situation was different because usually you ovulate one week after your cycle and it had been 2 weeks for me. My measurements were off because of how long my period was, and the length of time before I ovulated.  Our second ultrasound came back showing normal growth of our baby and in May of 2023 we finally welcomed our little miracle baby.

We were so blessed and very thankful to have all the wonderful care and support at Olive Fertility. The nurses always responded timely and kindly. And Dr. Graham was such a kind and patient doctor who made us feel so comfortable. So, thank you Olive Fertility for everything!!
