If I go a week without being asked about natural killer cells, I’d be surprised. The topic of natural killer cells is really messy: do they cause miscarriage? Do you want a lot of them or none of them for a successful pregnancy? Should we be testing for them? If so, where do we test for them: blood or uterine lining? Do they even matter?

I always wanted to be a mom and never would have believed it would be such a challenge for me to become one. I know what it’s like to go into the clinic multiple times a week hoping for good news every time. Feeling hopeless in the middle of a cycle that isn’t going how I wanted it to.

Read MoreI underwent egg retrieval/freezing in July of 2021. From the very beginning, the staff at Olive was absolutely incredible. I had flown to Vancouver from Northern BC and was staying alone to do all of my injections since my husband wasn’t able to attend due to the current COVID regulations. The first shot was the scariest but it gave me an immense amount of confidence for the subsequent shots that were required for retrieval.
Read MoreOur journey to parenthood still feels surreal. Infertility is a rollercoaster that you don’t want to be on, taking you slowly up each hill and barreling you down, only to climb another. Initially when my husband and I started trying to grow our family, we “didn’t stress” (which ended up being the most common and unwelcome piece of advice offered by well-meaning friends). We tried getting pregnant for years with no success. After consulting different doctors we found out that I have Polycystic Ovaries, which is the main reason why I couldn’t get pregnant.
Read MoreAfter almost 5 years of trying to conceive and working with doctors, plus 4 failed rounds of IUI we looked at the thought of proceeding down the journey of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Neither Bryce or I had anything medically wrong that prevented us from having children or impacted the process, it just simply wasn't going to happen on its own.
